Dear Ms. Zrihen , 08/30/11
I enjoyed reading the first half of the book, The Adventures of Tom sawyer, written by Mark Twain.  The genre was historical fiction.  The Adventures of Tom sawyer takes place in America. The main character or protagonist is Tom.  He was a very round or dynamic character because the book describes his as troublesome, young, good at figuring things out, and fast. The antagonist appears to be developing slowly because I believe it is the person who Tom was fighting.  Tom was fighting him because he threw a rock at Tom. Other characters are Aunt Polly, Sid, and Mary.  The plot evolved in the following way: First Tom tricks Aunt Polly and runs away. Then he gets in a fight, last he gets in trouble. The main problem or issue was Tom must do hard work. The tone or mood of the book was exciting.   A theme that appeared in the book was adventure.  The moral of the book is that breaking the rules doesn't pay off unless you’re Tom.  From my point of view, I could see that Tom is over confident.  The author organized the book through chronological order.  The author’s purpose was to entertain.  His perspective was Tom was over confident.

“ MY aunt look behind you. The old lady whirled around, and snatched up her skirts out of danger. The lad fled, on the instant, scrambled up the high board fence and disappeared over it.”  This was written on page 12.  I picked this passage because it shows that Tom is over confident.  The passage is significant to the story in the sense that Tom is very over confident.
I used several reading strategies throughout the book. Before reading, It was recommended, or suggested to me.  I also did the 5 finger test, or check the vocab.  While reading, I would always think of what to type or quiz my self and talk about it or discuss it.  (not yet finished)
Figurative language was noted in the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: simile,   metaphor, and oxymoron.
I would rate The Adventures of Tom sawyer ***** because I cant put it down.
Sincerely,
Michael Rogatinsky

  1. Mickey you did an ok job I had a difficult time reading the purple font. You did not include the literary elements, though nice job on the figurative language. Next time include your rates for the rating you put it in stars I cant see it don't be embarrassed to post it. The five finger test that you did before reading the book what did you get was it just right? Do you recommend this book to other people in our class? If you put yourself in the problem/conflict that was in the story how would you solve the problem? Do you think Tom Sawyer solved the problem in the correct way? Do you think this book is good for our level? How much pages did the book have?

    sincerely, Bar Peretz

  2. Mikey you did a good job on the journal. But what was the time setting? Also, I had trouble reading some of the different colors. Next time can you pick lighter colors? Why was the tone and mood exciting? Was the book suspensful? Which age group would you say this is appropiate for considering it looks hard for me? After the test was the book just right or not? 3. Mikey, you did good on the RJ. I couldn't read some of the parts due to the colors though. Why did you think the tone was exciting? If you were Tom Sawyer, how would you have solved the problem? Lastly, would you recommend this story to anyone?

  5. Dear Bar,
First off sorry about the color, I wanted to add some color.
Also, I did include the literary elements they were in the purple.
Next, The five finger test was just right, and I would recommend the book to the class. I would solve the problem by just doing the work instead of Tom's way by tricking other people into doing the work. So, no I don't think Tom solved the problem in the correct way. The book is 249 pages.

  6. Dear Isaac,

The time period of the book is the 1800's. Thank you for the recommendation about color, I will try it next time. There was suspense in the book. The mood was exciting because Tom is always on adventure and you want to know what he will do next. I would recommend this book to anyone from 7th grade to adult. Yes, the book did come out just right for me.

  7. Dear Daniel,

Sorry about the colors, everyone seems to say the same thing. I will try lighter colors next time. The tone was exciting because Tom was always on adventure and you wanted to see what he would do next. I would solve the problem by just doing the work instead of tricking others to do it. Yes, I would recommend the book to other 7th graders.

  8. Dear David,

I will try changing the color next time, everyone said the same thing about that. I think Tom Sawyer is like someone I know...Schachar, because Ms. Zrihen said Schachar always gets people to do things he wants. He's also like Ms. Vera because she likes to travel places. If I was in the Tom's shoes, I would have done the work myself. And, I would not have gotten in trouble to have to do the work in the first place.
